How do I find books or movies inside the library?
The library arranges materials on the shelf using the Library of Congress Classifcation system. This is different than how materials are arranged at a public library, which uses the Dewey Decimal System. Find out more about how LCC works.
Three ways to find materials in the library:
- Ask for help at the Help Desk. Don't be shy. We're here to help you. We guarantee that you will not be the first person to ask us for help finding information on any particular assignment. We've been helping students find stuff for years. It's what we do best!
- Browse the shelves. The shelves in the Open Stacks (where the books are mostly located) have magnets on them and shelf guides at the end of each shelf.
- Look them up in the KCTCS Library Catalog. The KCTCS Library Catalog is the library's online card catalog, which shows you a listing of each book and movie inside the library. You can find the book's call number and locate the book on the shelf using the call number.
